History

Odendaalsrus was the first town to be established in the Goldfields in 1912. The town was established in 1899 on the farm Kalkkuil, owned by Jesaja Odendaal. Due to the difficult sandy road leading there, development was slow and boomed only after gold was found.The small farming community with only 40 houses and 3 shops exploded into life after the confirmed discovery of the richest gold reef in the world in April 1946 on the farm Geduld.
