Matjahbeng-SpeakerMatjhabeng Speaker leads SALGA

Matjhabeng Local Municipality Speaker Cllr Bhekumuzi Charles Stofile is a new president of South African Local Government Association (SALGA).

The election took place following Salga’s two day national conference held recently in Cape Town. Stofile who is serving a third term as Speaker of Matjhabeng Local Municipality is be deputised by Executive Mayor of the Buffalo City municipality in the Eastern Cape Cllr Xola Phakati, Executive Mayor of Govan Mbeki local municipality in Mpumalanga Cllr Flora Maboa-Boltman and City of Cape Town’s Cllr Xathea Limberg.

Stofile who joined the Local Government in 2011, says municipalities need money so they can deliver services. “We have launched a new campaign called ‘Asisho! Let’s say it… a civic responsibility campaign”, he said adding that it is no secret that across the three spheres of government, local government receives the least from the national fiscus, and gets just over 9 percent on a an annual basis.

Stofile has earned respect from all his political peers owing to his diplomacy, good listening skills, fairness, firm and assertiveness. He has over time been involved in various leadership levels that resulted in him acquiring high level of strategic planning and executive skills namely: Public Management, Competencies, Strategic Executive Leadership Skills, Capacity to build commitment in the team, Teamwork, decisive decision making and thoughtful leadership, Good negotiator and ability to influence, Build networks and partnerships skills, Good communication and facilitation skills, Well-developed stakeholder and political acumen expertise, Change management and solid corporate governance expertise, Good writing and solid project management skills, Analytical and organizing skill and Public Management skills.

Over 26 years working in the private sector occupying various positions of leadership, he has been nurtured, skilled and capacitated to face any area of responsibility. During this period he served in numerous political roles and boards.
